The power of "we" has always been the foundation of 85 Broads. As the network has grown from 1,000 members in the year 2000 to nearly 3,000 members in 2002, 5,000 members by 2004, and now over 7,000 members before the end of 2005, we all are discovering just how powerful the message of "we always say 'we'" can become. Every single one of our members, in that sense, is an ambassador: a strong, smart individual, an "I" who chooses to say, see, and live as a "we."
Simi Sanni Nwogugu
Simi was born in Nigeria, where she lived until she moved to the United States to attend Mount Holyoke College. She worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in New York before returning to Nigeria to begin Junior Achievement Nigeria, a youth program partnering business with education in over 110 countries worldwide. Simi obtained her MBA from Harvard Business School and is currently the director of business development and strategy at Nickelodeon.
"After two years of working in investment banking for Goldman Sachs in New York, I made a trip back home to Nigeria. The trip was a turning point in my career as I decided to quit my job in banking and return to my home to help revitalize its economy. Nigeria had been through two decades of military dictatorship that plunged the country into devastating poverty and corruption. Most people were disillusioned about the state of their future, especially the youth, as the school system had collapsed. The young adults were graduating from secondary schools and universities without the requisite skills and knowledge for survival in the real world. I saw this as an opportunity to return to my home country and contribute to its redevelopment."
